Region

Dithmarschen and Steinburg are situated in northern Germany between the North Sea and the river Elbe. Both counties are part of the Hamburg Metropolitan Region and thus part of Europe's most prosperous region.
The landscape is characterized by the Wadden Sea, fens and the hilly moraine region. It attracts visitors from all over Europe. The natural heritage, low costs of living and high standards of educational facilities provide an outstanding living quality.
Dithmarschen and Steinburg excel in a healthy and sustainable mixture of medium-sized enterprises and industrial areas such as Hemmingstedt, Lägerdorf and the country's largest industrial area in Brunsbüttel. The ChemCoast Park Brunsbüttel provides work spaces for over 12,000 employees.
The regional centers of commerce and services are the cities Heide and Itzehoe. Both cities host important research sites including the Fraunhofer ISIT and the Westcoast University of Applied Science.
